Who We Are

VirtualDMV (virtualdmv.us) is a service of DMV.org. We provide free DMV guidance, checklists, and tools to help you navigate vehicle title transfers, registration, driver's licenses, and other motor vehicle services across the United States.

Our Privacy Commitment

We do not sell your data. Your privacy is fundamental to how we operate. We only collect the minimum information needed to provide our service, and we never share your personal information with third parties without your explicit action.

Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

• Information you provide: When you use our checklist tool, you may enter your state, the service you need, and answers to personalization questions. If you choose to email your checklist, you provide your email address.
• Automatically collected: Basic analytics data such as pages visited, browser type, device type, and general location (country/state level). We do not track individual browsing behavior across other websites.
• Voice input: If you use our voice feature, audio is processed in your browser using the Web Speech API. We do not record, store, or transmit your voice audio.

How We Use Your Information

• Generating your checklist: Your state and service selections are used to build a personalized DMV checklist, timeline, and fee estimate.
• Emailing your checklist: If you provide your email, we send your checklist PDF and may send follow-up tips and reminders related to your specific transaction.
• Improving our service: Aggregated, anonymous usage data helps us improve our tools and content accuracy.

Partner Offers & Recommendations

We may display contextual recommendations for third-party services (such as insurance comparisons, vehicle history reports, or title transfer services) that are relevant to the DMV task you are completing. These recommendations are based solely on the service type and state you selected — not on tracking your behavior.

We never share your personal information with partners unless you explicitly choose to interact with them (for example, by clicking a partner link or submitting a form to a partner). When you click a partner link, you leave our site and are subject to that partner's privacy policy.

Email Communications

If you provide your email address, you may receive:

• Your requested checklist PDF
• Transaction-specific reminders and tips (e.g., insurance reminders, inspection deadlines)

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can opt out of all communications at any time. We comply with the CAN-SPAM Act.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies:

• Session cookies: To remember your language preference (English/Spanish) and current session state. These expire when you close your browser.
• Analytics cookies: Basic, anonymized usage analytics to understand how our tools are used.

We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels.

Data Storage & Security

• Checklist data is generated in your browser and is not stored on our servers unless you choose to email it.
• Email addresses are stored securely and used only for sending your requested communications.
• We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Rights

You have the right to:
